Red se réveille dans un monde étrange, sans aucun souvenir de qui il est. Emmené de force à Arena City, il est plongé dans un tournoi de gladiateurs où les champions de tous les royaumes d’insectes se battent pour la gloire. C’est là qu’il rencontre Kiro, une jeune guérisseuse, au moment même où l’Empire des Araignées du roi Gorloth fait irruption dans l’arène. Accompagnés de Milla, une guide fluviale, ils partent à la recherche des Guêpes, des Mantes et des Fourmis pour les unir avant que les araignées ne les anéantissent toutes. Mais l’Empire des Scorpions est en pleine ascension, et la vérité sur le passé de Red, ainsi que sur le frère qu’il croyait avoir perdu, va tout changer.
Red wakes up in a strange land with no memory. Brought to Arena City, he is forced to fight in a gladiator tournament against champions from every insect kingdom, and meets Kiro, a young healer. Then the spiders attack the arena.
Red and Kiro camp by a remote forest lake, where Kiro reveals he knows more about Red's past than Red does. Their quiet night ends when a colossal armored lizard comes out of the wild.
Out of the forest, Red and Kiro find a hidden insect village whose chief, impressed by their courage in the arena, invites them to his legendary jousting tournament. While the village celebrates, a far greater danger closes in.
Milla, a river guide, leads Red and Kiro toward the Ant Kingdom, hoping to unite the Ants with the Wasps and the Mantises. A storm drives them into a cave that hides far more than rock.
The Spider Empire lays siege to the Wasp Kingdom with catapults, poison and betrayal from within, while Red and Kiro are caught up in a brutal test of strength.
Through the Vernant Maze and the jungle of Thorn Shade, the companions finally reach the Ant Kingdom, only to be arrested at its gates. Its new king has been waiting a long time to see Red again.
